For someone starting out, the hard part is choosing. This box chooses — the three oils people reach for first, for about what one full-size bottle costs.

• Lemon Certified Organic (Citrus limon) — cold pressed from the peel. Bright and immediate. Four drops in a diffuser through the afternoon.
• Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — steam distilled from the flowering tops. Soft, floral, rounded. Four drops in the bedroom, half an hour before bed.
• Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) — steam distilled from the leaf. Cold and sharp. One drop on a tissue is enough.
